The Sporting Unity Accademy course introduces participants to the themes of sport, colonial history, social justice, and intercultural dialogue through the lens of Olympic values. By exploring historical perspectives, contemporary challenges, and inspiring initiatives, learners will develop critical thinking skills and a deeper understanding of how sport can contribute to inclusion, equality, and positive social change.

Sporting Unity Academy

The Sporting Unity Academy course invites participants to explore the complex relationship between sport, history, culture, and social justice through the lens of the Olympic movement and its values.

While the Olympic Games are often celebrated as symbols of peace, unity, and international cooperation, their history is also deeply connected to broader social, political, and colonial processes. This course encourages learners to critically examine these connections, exploring how sport has both reflected and challenged systems of inequality throughout history.

Across four engaging modules, participants will investigate the historical links between Olympism and colonialism, analyse episodes of racism, exclusion, and discrimination in sport, discover stories of resistance and positive social change, and explore contemporary projects and initiatives that use sport as a tool for inclusion, equity, and intercultural dialogue.

The course is designed for young people, educators, youth workers, coaches, students, and anyone interested in understanding how sport can influence society beyond the playing field. No previous knowledge of Olympic history or social sciences is required.

Through a combination of readings, videos, podcasts, interactive activities, discussions, quizzes, and reflective exercises, participants will develop critical thinking skills and gain a deeper understanding of the social impact of sport. Learners will be encouraged to connect historical events with contemporary challenges and reflect on their own role in promoting inclusion, respect, and social justice within their communities.

The Sporting Unity Academy is more than a learning experience—it is an opportunity to engage with diverse perspectives, exchange ideas with peers from different cultural backgrounds, and become part of a growing community committed to intercultural understanding and positive social change.
